Day 2 - You Win This One, Ma Nature

Oh my, what an adventure this has already turned out to be.

So we got through the last night without too many concerns - it was a little chilly, but the kid was kept warm, and we got a fire going (Gord loves a fire, as evidenced by the pic above) and water boiling for coffee quickly, so Mom warmed up before the clock struck 7:00. And on the road we went again.

Our child is certainly part Davies (a nomadic tribe, the Davies are most content in a car) - we have now enjoyed a LONG morning nap two days in a row. Yesterday it got us to Parry Sound as he slumbered, and today he stayed asleep until we got to Blind River - another 2.5 hour nap.

So with a good chunk done, and a long break, we thought it would be ok to get back on the road.

I guess we didn't check with Gord. In a few minutes we found out that he wasn't happy to be back in the car - it took 25 heart rending minutes for him to fall asleep. It took 5 years off of his father's life, who was sitting in the back and trying to placate him.

Ultimately we made it to Lake Superior Provincial Park - a beautiful park Kevin had visited only once before. After being dazzled by the views of the inland sea that is Superior, and after wondering how
Iong we'd have to go before coming to our reserved site at the park's Rabbit Blanket Campground (I wish I could take credit for that name).

Finally, there it was - a quick check-in and we found our site. That's where the trouble began. It seems that all of mother nature's 6 legged biting creations were waiting for us at the site. While Kevin quickly set up the tent, T and G went for a walk. It didn't last long. There were mosquito's, black flies, horse flies (and not one or two) - every manner of chewing beastie was ready to celebrate Canada Day weekend with us.

Needless to say, we spent the evening in the tent - away from gnashing teeth. You win this round Mother Nature, but we still had a pleasant night (Kevin and Gord even enjoyed a short fire once things died down a bit).

Tomorrow we trace our way a Ross the Nprth shore of Superior as we near the end of Ontario n our way to Sleeping Giant Provincial Park. We're gonna stop for bug spray first though. <wink>

TOTAL FUEL FILL UPS: 1
DAILY WILD LIFE: red squirrel (in our 'pantry' bag, arms wrapped around our pb jar); northern mosquito (everywhere); black flies (everywhere); horse flies we could have ridden them to Winnipeg!
